WOYM EP 19: When Pain Becomes Investment, Mob Action and Institutional Failures

Can a country’s deepest pain be transformed into its greatest investment?

On one hand, we look at a terrifying breakdown of law and order – mob action. Ayisha brings to light the horrific lynching of Mallama Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu – a tragic reminder of a rising tide of jungle justice. With chilling statistics from the Daily Trust showing 60 mob-related murders in late 2025 and already 27 in the first half of 2026, we have to ask: Why is our justice system failing, and why did the police hand a citizen over to a mob?

But on the other side of trauma lies a fierce resilience. Ekene flips the switch on the classic question, “What has my country done for me?” to ask, “What can you do for your country?” Looking closely at the gender-based violence (GBV) sector, she examines the incredible individuals who have turned profound personal trauma into an “investment” – giving back to a society that failed them.

This episode confronts the worst of our realities while discovering the absolute best of our human spirit. From the nefarious mob action stories, to the most compassionate efforts to make a better society, our guest, Dorothy Njemanze
