The Architect is the designer of a society’s built environment and provides one of the most vital of human needs, Shelter. The designing and construction of infrastructure and the built environment for the people, while taking note of the errors of the past structure, is one of an architect’s roles in nation building. Providing solutions for the problems of our present condition and foreseeing the problem of the future is an important role of the Architect.
From the sky rise buildings to the long overhead bridges to the beautiful homes we live in, architects have fashioned and redefined what housing looks and feels like in Nigeria. An architect in training, Mokutmfon James, joined Gloria on International Architects Day to explain the role architects play in building Nigeria and by extension Africa.
