Africa’s presence at global technology forums is evolving—from participation to influence. At Web Summit Qatar, Africa Tech Radio’s AfriConnect Doha offered a glimpse into what that transition looks like in practice.

The gathering convened stakeholders from across Africa’s tech landscape, including policymakers, founders, investors, and institutional partners. Central to the discussions was the question of how African economies can position themselves competitively within global digital systems.

The gathering provided an off-stage environment where participants could engage more deeply on issues ranging from startup financing and sustainability to policy alignment and talent development.

A fireside session with Cape Verde’s Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes, explored how smaller African states can leverage international collaboration, policy agility, and strategic partnerships to accelerate digital growth.

The presence of public-sector leaders, including Cape Verde’s Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes and Ambassador of the Central African Republic (CAR) to Qatar, Hamodi Check underscored the importance of aligning innovation with governance and long-term strategy.

By hosting AfriConnect Doha for the second consecutive year, Africa Tech Radio demonstrated a commitment to creating spaces where Africa’s digital future can be discussed with nuance, depth, and strategic intent—beyond headlines and hype.

As global attention on Africa’s tech potential grows, initiatives like AfriConnect Doha signal a more coordinated and confident engagement with the world’s leading technology platforms.

For Africa Tech Radio, AfriConnect Doha represents more than a side event — it signals a growing capacity to convene diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaboration across borders. As Africa’s tech ecosystem matures, platforms like AfriConnect are becoming essential spaces for translating global conversations into regional action.
