In the debut episode of What’s On Your Mind, hosts Ekene Ezeji and Ayisha Osori dig into two layered conversations that dive into two fiery conversations that lit up Nigerian circles online and reveal how we see ourselves as Nigerians; at home and abroad.

From the online gang-bashing of Kemi Badenoch, the Leader of the Conservative Party, UK, to Aisha’s reflections on her own “miseducation”, the hosts ask bold questions.

How does our colonial history, education/miseducation, and collective memory still shape who we are today?

The conversation is personal, provocative, and painfully honest; the kind that makes you stop and think about what it really means to be African, educated, and self-aware in a global world.

Tune in, think deeper, and maybe question your own hot takes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast! It’s a refreshing and insightful deviation from all the noise across social media. This is one intellectual, social and rational conversation I needed to hear to become consciously aware of my own miseducation.

Thanks for sharing Ayisha. I like your point about revisiting your education including some of the texts you’ve written for schools. I agree that our experiences are somewhat defined by location, access, heritage and upbringing.
Dennis’ phrase about Kemi ‘twerking’ for the people is quite hilarious! I think we all unconsciously perform for the applause of others one way or the other. We all must unlearn this need to win approval even when it goes against our values and beliefs.

Loved all the topics discussed by intellectuals like you Aisha and Ekene. Made lots of sense and my brain is lightened. Yes! I agree with Ayi about Kemi Badenoch , her statements often come across as careless and lacking in depth, almost as though she’s forgotten or detached from the reality of her roots. It makes one wonder how someone with such limited understanding of her heritage rose so quickly in UK politics.
About miseducation: We need to teach the truth about our heroes, empires, innovations, and values. Education should produce problem-solvers, not just certificate holders in Nigeria. Infact our teachers must become nation-builders, not just instructors.

Usually, I can tell whether I would like a movie, or show or podcast from the very first edition. I love this edition and would be looking forward to subsequent episodes. It wasn’t just because I enjoy listing to Ayi and how she breaks down issues, nor is it because Ekene is my favourite person in the world…Lol. Actually, it is also because of the quality of the production and the conversation flow.
As per Kemi Badenoch, Ekene knows my views already. I think I must have done like 2 advocacies on A PLACE AT THE TABLE (which she produces) and used her as reference countless times. For me, British Nigerian Born author captured it right “Kemi is the black face of White Supremacy”. She wanted it, she courted it and now she’s become the face. I disagree with Ekene that we don’t hold our politicians in Nigeria to the same standard. We actually do and even much more. Have you seen the way we tackle our politicians on and off social media? Anyway, with regard to Kemi, this is one story we know how it will end and it will not be pleasant sitting for her.
